Sonam Kapoor, the bollywood beauty queen’s upcoming film Neerja has been banned in Pakistan. the film showcases the real story based on real incidents during the hijacking of the Pan Am Flight 73 at Karachi airport in 1986. it has been banned in Pakistan allegedly for showing the country in poor light.

The film is directed by Ram Madhvani and produced by Atul Kasbekar under the banner of Fox Star Studios. the film features Sonam Kapoor in titular role and Shabana Azmi and Shekhar Ravjiani in supporting roles. the story revolves around Neerja Bhanot, who was murdered while saving passengers from terrorists on board the hijacked Pan Am Flight 73 on 5 September 1986. This film shows how the young flight attendant fought for the lives of her passengers.

Neerja was banned without being submitted to the censor board of Pakistan. they admitted that there were certain anti-Pakistan elements in this film and it showed Muslims in negative light.

The head of the Central Board of Film Censors said that the decision was taken by the information and commerce ministry of the country. The ministry had initially given a No Objection Certificate for the import of the film Neerja, but later revoked it. Pakistan had earlier banned big banner Indian films like Haider, Phantom and Ek Tha Tiger.
