Sanjay Leela Bhansali is widely considered as the most versatile filmmakers in the country. The director has delivered some top notch classics in the past which includes ‘Devdas’, ‘Black’ and ‘Guzaarish’. His last release was ‘Goliyon Ki Rasleele: Ramleela’ with Ranveer Singh and Deepika Padukone in the lead roles. Expectations were sky high when the trio united along with Priyanka Chopra for ‘Bajirao Mastani’. The film hit the theaters today, and we are hereby sharing our genuine review about this flick.

Through ‘Bajirao Mastani’, Sanjay Leela Bhansali aims to portray the historical romance of the Maratha leader Bajirao Ballal Bhat who fought 40 battles. In this film, we see Bajirao fighting two wars; one for the pride of his nation, while the other against his family to maintain the honor of his beloved. It should be noted that Mastani whom Bajirao loved was a muslim, and she never accepted the customs and tradition of Bajirao’s family.

Through the movie, Sanjay Leela Bhansali tries to spread a very powerful thought. “Love is religion itself. Every religion ask us to love, not to hate. The powerful emotion of Love is beyond every religion”.

This film is one of the most visually rich flicks which got released in the recent days. The war scenes were captured brilliantly, and Sanjay Leela Bhansali deserves a special round of applause for this effort. The costumes and sets in the movie were literally elegant, and the cinematography stands top notch.

The movie is blessed with some fine performances from its lead actors. Ranveer Singh, Priyanka Chopra and Deepika Padukone excelled in the main roles, and we cannot think about a replacement for them.

Tanvi Azmi as Bajirao’s mother, Mahesh Manjrekar as Chhatrasal Shahu, Vaibhav Tatwawdi as Bajirao’s brother Chimaji too stole the show.

One of the main negative factors of this movie is the confusion which will arise in the minds of the audiences while watching it. This movie cannot be considered as a historical movie nor a romantic film, and it falls in between the two. The first half of the movie is so lagging, and it will surely test the patience of the audiences. The second half of this movie is much more enjoyable than its first half.

Final Verdict: ‘Bajirao Mastani’s theatrical run will not be an easy task, as it is facing huge threat from ‘Dilwale’. If you wish to see Sanjay Leela’s magic visuals on screen, then it is wise to book the tickets.
