Plot:
Everest is based on true events which happened back in 1996 during an expedition led by Rob Hall played by Jason Clarke. A bunch of adventurers who make it a point to achieve something in life head on to an expedition on Mount Everest. While they embark their journey towards the final summit, with little warning they are hit by a fierce storm which puts them in a spot where they face the challenge of survival in the harshest conditions. This one is directed by Baltasar Kormakur.
Positives
The movie has spectacular visuals no doubt about that. The cinematography by Salvatore Totino was spectacular, and looking at them you do want to venture out, his splendid work was well supported by great VFX which made it life-like. The icing on this not so well baked cake was the 3D effects which made the experience quite better, We are pretty sure IMAX would have been a visual treat. The sound was great and did add some life to the movie.
Negatives:
As interesting its sounds, it does not capture your undivided attention, which it could have with better treatment on the script, it gets weak on emotions, and there are quite a few places where it should have touched the audience, but it fails to do so. The movie is more concentrated on the visuals that it forgets the vital essence of the story. The star cast is crowded with impeccable talents who hardly had something to showcase. Joshn Brolin, Jake Gyllenhaal, Jason Clarke, Kiera Knightly and Sam Worthington. In spite of them being in it, could not draw the attention. These elements make EVEREST less interesting which could have been an edgy adventure thriller.
Verdict
Everest by Baltasar could have scaled heights if it had soul in its story, but ended up being a documentary on a Hollywood scale budget. The rating is for its technical beauty.
