Farooq Sheikh (25 March 1948 – 27 December 2013) was an Indian actor, philanthropist and a television presenter. He rose to fame because of his acting in films of the 70s and 80s. He was generally famous for his work in an art cinema also known as parallel cinema. He also worked under the direction of Satyajit Ray and Hrishikesh Mukherjee. Farooq was born in a Muslim family of Mumbai-based lawyer Mustafa Shaikh and Farida Shaikh, in Amroli, Barodi, Gujarat, near Naswadi village near Bodeli town. His family members were zamindars and he was brought up in luxurious surroundings. He was the eldest of five children in his family. He went to St. Mary’s School, Mumbai and later to St. Xavier’s College, Mumbai. He completed his law studies at Siddhartha College of Law.

He was the eldest of five siblings. He was educated at St. Mary’s School, Mumbai and then to St. Xavier’s College, Mumbai. He completed his law studies at Siddhartha College of Law. He died on 27 December 2013.
