In just 12-days, Universal’s Furious 7 has crossed the $800M mark at the global box office. It is on pace to become the first film in the series to reach a billion dollars. The Fast and the Furious franchise has now grossed $3.18B.
Furious 7 nabbed $195M at the foreign box office this weekend and $60.6M at the domestic box office. That has easily pushed it past Fifty Shades Of Grey for the 2015 box office lead.
The film got a lot of love in China and Russia. In China they had a need for speed as Furious 7 had the highest grossing one-day result with $68.6M on Sunday. Over in Russia, it came in first place with $15M.
Continuing the global exploits in the unstoppable franchise built on speed, Vin Diesel, Paul Walker and Dwayne Johnson lead the returning cast of Fast & Furious 7. James Wan directs this chapter of the hugely successful series that also welcomes back favorites Michelle Rodriguez, Jordana Brewster, Tyrese Gibson, Chris “Ludacris” Bridges, Elsa Pataky and Lucas Black. They are joined by international action stars new to the franchise including Jason Statham, Djimon Hounsou, Tony Jaa, Ronda Rousey and Kurt Russell. The film was written by Chris Morgan.
