From having a variety of tulips in Netherlands named after her to making an appearance on David Letterman and Oprah Winfrey shows, Aishwarya Rai Bachchan has received a lot of global recognition. She recently made a comeback in Sanjay Gupta’s Jazbaa and even though the film didn’t really set the cash registers ringing at the box office, people loved her back on the big screen again. The actress is currently shooting for Karan Johar’s Ae Dil Hai Mushkil, which also stars Ranbir Kapoor and Anushka Sharma. Today on her 42nd birthday, let’s look back at this diva’s journey:
The Miss World Crown
After winning an international supermodel contest in 1991, Aishwarya appeared in a Pepsi commercial alongside Aamir Khan. The year 1994 was a significant one when after missing the Miss India title by a whisker to Sushmita Sen, she represented the country at the Miss World pageant. And as we all know, she won that too.
Bollywood It Is
Most beauty pageant winners end up joining the Bollywood bandwagon and Rai followed the same route too. Sadly, her first few films like Aur Pyaar Ho Gaya and Aa Ab Laut Chalen failed at the box office. Her first big hit was Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam, which is still regarded as one of her best works.

Marriage and Motherhood
Aishwarya dated actors Salman Khan and Vivek Oberoi before tying the knot with Abhishek Bachchan. Their love story began on the sets of Mani Ratnam’s Guru. Abhishek proposed after the film’s premiere in Toronto. The birth of their daughter, Aaradhya was a big occasion for the whole Bachchan clan. The family continues to keep the child away from the media glare.
And, She’s Back
After Guzaarish in 2010, Aishwarya took a break from films and made a comeback this year with Jazbaa. With Ae Dil Hai Mushkil set to release next Diwali, we can’t wait to see her in movies again.
Once again, happy birthday, Aishwarya.
