Throughout his career, Waters has attracted heavy criticism for his innumerable false, inflammatory and racist remarks. In early 2017, he falsely claimed that Hillary Clinton’s campaign manager John Podesta gave his password to a hacker, and that his password was “password”. Later, Waters said that climate change “wasn’t such a big deal.” He also defended Donald Trump’s policy of separating children from their families.

Waters had another brawl in 2009, when he and his cameraman ambushed journalist Amanda Terkel during an assignment for “The O’Reilly Factor”; Terkel was on vacation at the time. Seven years later, Huffington Post journalist Ryan Grimm approached Waters with his phone in hand and asked him to apologize to Terkel. Waters later grabbed Grimm’s phone and threw it to the ground, leading to a fierce match between the two men.

Controversy, Part 2

In 2016, Waters drew further criticism for a segment of his show “Waters’ World”, during which he recorded racist conversations towards Asian Americans. In the segment, he asked Chinese-Americans if they knew the Japanese game of karate; In addition, he asked them if they should bow down before greeting, and if they were wearing stolen watches, the song “Kung Fu Fighting” was playing in the background the entire time. New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio called the segment despicable and racist, while several other lawmakers and journalists also condemned Waters.

In the summer of 2020, Waters received further backlash when he praised right-wing conspiracy group QAnon during his show.
