The Tamil movie has done an approximate collection of Rs. 21.5 crore, thereby breaking all the opening day business records of Kollywood films in Tamil Nadu.

Even as mixed responses came in from reviewers, Kabali is smashing BO records with its collections. Shows are seeing 90 percent occupancy in south India and even Hindi shows have recorded over 50% occupancy on Kabali day 2 screening on Saturday.

“Kabali” has beaten the first day box office collection record of Ajith’s “Vedalam,” which had earned Rs. 15.5 crore on its opening day last Diwali, to become the biggest Kollywood opener of all time. The Rajinikanth-starrer has been released in over 550 screens in Tamil Nadu.
With its day 1 earnings of approximately Rs 42 crore, the film is looking at over Rs 120 crore weekend business. On Friday, the film made Rs 21.5 crore in Tamil Nadu alone.
Trade Analyst Taran Adarsh tweeted the collection updates of North India market. Kabali, on its opening day, collected Rs 5.20 cr in North India markets. Taran tweeted: #Kabali collects ₹ 5.20 cr nett [Hindi + Tamil + Telugu] on Fri in NORTH INDIA markets.

Film distributor Raj Bansal wrote, “#Kabali – All Versions Total – ₹ 42.00 Cr Appox. @superstarrajini Superb.” The collections are stupendous and trump Salman Khan’s Sultan, which earned Rs 36.54 crore on opening day.
In the US, where the film released on 400 screens, it has become Rajinikanth’s highest grosser ever. With these collections, Kabali has already broken Salman Khan’s Sultan and Aamir Khan’s PK record in the US.
