Dhanush is one of those rare actors in Indian Cinema who has the capability to portray both class and mass roles with perfection. Expectations were sky high as Dhanush joined hands with Velraj for ‘Thanga Magan‘ as the duo have previously delivered a mammoth blockbuster through ‘VIP’.
‘Thanga Magan’ which has Amy Jackson and Samantha in the lead female roles hit the theaters today. Dhanush fans have welcomed the movie with open hearts, and they are turning theaters to festival grounds. Most of the theaters all around Tamil Nadu and Kerala are witnessing an attendance of more than 75% which is something remarkable in nature.

The life of a common man: The storyline of ‘Thanga Magan’ can be easily related with the young guys in the state. The movie showcases the life of a common man, before and after marriage. In his youth, he fell in love with a girl, but due to circumstances, he marries another girl in the future. He is a loyal son and committed husband, but things takes a new turn when he falls in trouble as tiff arises with a dreaded villain.
Velraj – The growing master craftsman: Velraj, as we all known is an acclaimed cinematographer, and he has proved his directorial skills through ‘VIP’. When it comes to ‘Thanga Magan’, the director failed to re create the magic of ‘VIP’, but still the movie ends up as an engaging watch for the audiences.
The director has paced the first half of the movie in a very excellent manner. The scenes were narrated impeccably, and there is not even a second of boredom throughout the first half running time.
When it comes to second half, Velraj lost his gear at some points, but still he managed to glue the audiences in theater seats. Altogether, ‘Thanga Magan’ is such a movie which has an excellent first half and an average second half.
Performances: Dhanush’s performance is something unquestionable in nature. He enacted the roles in two phases of his life with perfection. Amy Jackson and Samantha Ruth Prabhu too did their roles well. Raadhika Sarathkumar was good in her mother character, and she did the role in a flawless manner.
The surprise package in the movie came from K S Ravikumar. The veteran director proved that he is a class actor too. His combination scenes with Dhanush were a real treat to watch.
Technicalities: The cinematography of the movie stands top notch, and the same is the case of songs. The BGM is average, and Anirudh failed to recreate the magic he did in ‘Maari’ and ‘VIP’.
Final Verdict: ‘Thanga Magan’ is one such movie which you can watch with your families in this weekend, and this wont make you disappointed.
