Bollywood Star Urvashi Rautela, who will represent India at the Miss Universe 2015 pageant, arrived at her hometown Kotdwar on Tuesday to a rousing and what may claimed an unprecedented welcome. An estimated 1 million people lined up on the one-km stretch from Maharaja Chowk to Malviya Udhan Road to welcome the local girl, who won the Yamaha Fascino Miss Diva 2015 contest recently. With so many people vying to catch a glimpse of the light-eyed beauty, her flower-bedecked special chariot took almost two hours to cover the one-km distance.
Dancers performing the traditional choliya dance of the region along with school students accompanied the procession. Earlier, Urvashi began the day by visiting the Prem Dham ashram for handicapped children. She told the children how self-confidence and will power helps to overcome all difficulties in life. “You should never lose faith in yourself,” was her message to the kids.
Later, Urvashi visited the Bishop’s House church at Kotdwar , where she had spent most of her childhood playing in the gardens along with her friends. She was felicitated by the church’s father who recollected how Urvashi always came forward to decorate the church every Christmas since childhood and was also a part of the choir group.
Urvashi ended the day by expressing her overwhelming gratitude to the people of her hometown. “No matter where one goes in the world and what one achieves in life, there is nothing that can match the feeling of coming back home,” she said.
