Vishnuvardhan for Shershaah, Ranjit Tiwari for Bell Bottom, Laxman Utekar for Mimi and more – vote for the Best Director in the first half of 2021
With theatres shut all across the country for almost two years, people have consumed content online like never before. However, not a lot of it has been up to scratch, and even lesser can be qualified as worthy to be considered among the best of the year. So, after sifting through the plethora of titles, we’ve managed to filter out some really good ones for the Bollywood buff in you, with two theatrical releases – in the small window that theatres outside Maharashtra opened – also making the cut. Of course, if they’re that good, then the captain of the ship deserves the maximum credit. So, without further ado, here are the nominees for the Best Director in the first half of 2021…
Vishnuvardhan (Shershaah)
Shershaah was arguably the most popular OTT film of the year in India, and a large part of that boils down to how Vishnuvardhan mounted such a tough project and extracted hands down Sidharth Malhotra’s best performance till date.
Ranjit Tiwari (Bell Bottom)
Despite not making a noise at the box office, owing to the state of theatres when it had released, Akshay Kumar starrer Bell Bottom received ubiquitously positive reviews and later soared after its OTT release and there’s no doubt Ranjit Tiwari merits copious praise for that.
Laxman Utekar (Mimi)
Not many gave Mimi a chance in hell, so it was a huge surprise the way it turned out and clicked with the audience all over, including how much Kriti Sanon displayed maturity as an actress. Laxman Utekar, as the Director, deserves all the accolades for the appreciation and then some.
AL Vijay (Thalaivii)
Like Bell Bottom, Kangana Ranaut starrer Thalaivii, too, got the short end of the stick in theatres and later found its audience in its digital run, majorly down to how admirably Director AL Vijay steered the project.
Devanshu Kumar (14 Phere)
Sometimes all you need is a lighthearted fun film, and Devanshu Kumar clearly understood that while helming 14 Phere.
Neeraj Ghaywan (Geeli Puchi – Ajeeb Dastaans)
Ajeeb Dastans was very good as an anthology film, but it was Geeli Puchi from it that really stood it in large part to how meticulously Neeraj Ghaywan executed it akin to the precision of a surgeon’s knife.
So, what are you waiting for? Go ahead and vote for the Best Director in the first half of 2021 right now…
