Known for his natural acting and charming personality, Biswajit Chatterjee has ruled the hearts of audiences of Bengali films and Hindi films for years. Growing up in Kolkata, Biswajit Chatterjee’s acting journey started with Bengali films. After acting in successful Bengali films like Maya Mrig and Dui Bhai, Biswajit Chatterjee turned to Hindi films. He came to Mumbai from Kolkata. The Hindi film industry made this successful actor of Bengali films head-eyes. As a result, Vishwajeet’s bag was filled with Hindi films in a very short time. In 1962, Biswajit Chatterjee’s first Hindi film was released after twenty years which set new heights of success at the box office. Soon Vishwajit became a fast rising actor of Hindi films. Biswajit Chatterjee’s fans gave him the title of King of Romance. The popularity of the songs picturized on Vishwajeet boosted his film career. Film producers-directors started believing in him. Even after the success in Hindi films, Vishwajeet did not stop acting in Bengali films. He continued to travel to Kolkata and act in selected Bengali films, notable among them the superhit film ‘Chowringhee’. After the experience of acting, Vishwajeet also turned his creativity towards film direction. Vishwajeet took over the responsibility of both the production and direction of the film ‘Kehte Hain Mujhko Raja’, released in the year 1975. Starring Dharmendra, Hema Malini, Shatrughan Sinha and Rekha, the film did decent business at the box office.
