With Kangana Ranaut and R Madhvan reprising their roles, producer Krishika Lulla feels Tanu Weds Manu 2 will redefine the trend of sequels in Bollywood. Krishika said, contrary to the perception about Bollywood reboots, the latest version of Anand L Rai’s hit 2011 film of the same name will present an original sequel.
“Tanu Weds Manu 2 is an extension of its previous part. It’s actually a real sequel, where Kangana and Madhvan are again playing the lead roles. It continues where the last film ended, unlike the sequels we have in Bollywood, where either the storyline is changed or the leads are replaced with other actors,” Krishika said.
The new movie is currently in the shooting stage, and is left with its Haryana schedule in April, after finishing elaborate filming in Lucknow. Tanu Weds Manu 2 is slated to hit theatres May 22 this year.
“The script is the hero in the second season. Our aim is to make the part two better than the first one, though I loved the first movie. Now, we are just left with the final leg of its schedule in Haryana, which will be done in April, and some final work in Mumbai,” said Krishika, who produced other Bollywood hits like Raanjhanaa and Goliyon Ki Raasleela: Ram-Leela among others.
Asked the reason behind coming up with the sequel of Tanu Weds Manu after a gap of four years, Krishika said, “We had the synopsis of the script with us for quite some time. But Anand and I got busy with Raanjhanaa. The moment we finished it, we were back for Tanu Weds Manu 2.”
Lulla went on to add, “Anand is like a family. We are doing a lot of stuff together. We have a connection. Our sensibilities and thought process are similar, and probably that’s the reason we have come up with a brilliant script for Tanu Weds Manu 2. I would love to produce women-centric films, provided they have a strong script. My next two projects are with debutant directors. I feel the freshers are a pool of talent. I have just met them, and was quite amazed by their stories.”
